Anne Lamott's "Instructions on Writing and Life"

In her new book "Bird by Bird," Lamott talks about the nuts and bolds of how to write, but also how to live a writer's life. Her last book was the memoir "Operating Instructions."

"Crooked Little Heart" is Lamott's follow-up novel to "Rosie," about the troubles she faces in school and with her mother, a recovering alcoholic. Lamott's most popular book is "BIrd by Bird," an instructional book on writing. She has also written four other books, including "Hard Laughter."

Before she became a novelist, Ramona Emerson spent 16 years documenting crime scenes. Shutter tells the story of a forensic photographer named Rita who, like Emerson, is a member of the Navajo Nation.
