Filmmaker Mira Nair has just adapted Jhumpa Lahiri's 2003 novel The Namesake to the big screen. Her previous films include Vanity Fair, Monsoon Wedding and Mississippi Masala.
Indian born film maker Mira Nair. Her new movie, "Mississippi Masala," is the story of an African-American man and an African Indian woman who come together in a little Southern town. Nair's previous film, "Salaam Bombay," got an Oscar nomination for best foreign film and won the Camera d'Or at Cannes.
Nair has made a career making documentaries about social conditions in her home country of India. Her new movie, Salaam Bombay!, is her first feature. The film, about street children, won the Palme D'or at the Cannes Film Festival
