David Simon and George Pelecanos talk about their newest HBO drama 'The Deuce' set in NYC Times Square in 1970s when 42nd street was a center of prostitution, adult book stores, peep shows and movie theatres. Simon and Pelecanos also collaborated on 'The Wire' and 'Treme'.

David Simon and Eric Overmyer met when they worked on the TV series Homicide: Life on the Streets. They also worked together on Simon's acclaimed HBO series The Wire. Now they have a new series called Treme — about the musicians and other locals rebuilding their lives after Hurricane Katrina.

David Simon, creator and executive producer of HBO's series The Wire, joins Fresh Air to talk about his career and the genesis of the show. Simon writes many of the episodes — and some story lines come from his former job as a police reporter for the Baltimore Sun.
